In the next few years, the 50+ acres which host our Lewis Day Camp facility will become home as well to an outdoor education center. Capital improvements will provide the resources for many more YMCA programs to serve children, teens, families, and community groups. With the addition of new program resources, the facility will be able to host a wide-range of programs over seven months of the year, rather than the three months of our Lewis Day Camp. Thanks to over 100 volunteers and donations from several local companies, in May of 2004 we made great strides toward our vision. We built six low Adventure Challenge Course activities for team-building and leadership development. A beautiful dock system was put in at our canoe launch on the Black River. A performance stage and seating for over 100 were built off the end of the pavilion for use in opening and closing ceremonies, family nights, theater games and singing. And, a new fire pit was built with seating for over 100 set around the outside. Directions to our Lewis Day Camp facility: - From the South: Take I-91 to Exit 7. Stay right at end of off-ramp, pass under I-91 and get into left lane. Turn left onto Route 5 between Blue Canoe and a closed gas station. Lewis Day Camp is less than 1/2 mile up on the right, just after crossing over the bridge over the Black River.
- From the North: Take I-91 to Exit 7. Stay right at end of ramp. Immediately cross over to left lane. Turn left onto Route 5 between Blue Canoe and a closed gas station. Lewis Day Camp is less than 1/2 mile up on the right, just after crossing over the bridge over the Black River.
- From downtown Springfield: Take Route 11 East toward NH. Just before I-91, take a right onto Route 5 South, between a closed gas station and Blue Canoe. Lewis Day Camp is less than 1/2 mile up on the right, just after crossing over the bridge over the Black River.
- From Charlestown: From downtown, stay on Route 12 North until the left turn that will take you across the old Toll Bridge. On the VT side, pass under Route 91 and get into left lane. Turn left onto Route 5 between Blue Canoe and a closed gas station. Lewis Day Camp is less than 1/2 mile up on the right, just after crossing over the bridge over the Black River.
