The "Snow Day Program" was developed in 2001 by the Meeting Waters YMCA. The impetus came from a forum hosted by the Brattleboro Area Chamber of Commerce and Windham Child Care Association during which local employers shared that attendance at work drops on Snow Days because many parents need to stay home with their children. With the support of the administrators of Green Street School, the Meeting Waters YMCA was able to respond with another vital service. Funding for some start-up costs was provided by Brattleboro Kiwanis and the Brattleboro Area Chamber of Commerce.
