One role of our LIT program is to be a bridge between being a Meeting Waters YMCA camper and a camp staff member. But, the LIT program is more than that. It is a leadership development program. It is a mentoring program. It is great training for young people that might want to go into teaching, social services, youth work or other group leadership positions.
All LITs will spend one week together for intensive leadership training (6/28-7/2). All LITs must participate in this week. After the initial training week, LITs will choose any three of the remaining seven weeks of Lewis Day Camp for their practical learning. LITs work side-by-side with our staff members and have responsibilities for managing group behavior, leading activities, and supporting the staff.
The training program will be led by MWYMCA Executive Director Steve Fortier, author of Youth Leadership in Action and an international youth leadership consultant, along with Lewis Day Camp Director Sue Fortier. Sue will oversee the program throughout the summer. All LITs receive a complimentary copy of Youth Leadership in Action.
